CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- UNI softball hit the lone run of the series against Missouri State on Sunday afternoon to grab the 1-0 win.

What was originally supposed to be a three-game series, became just one game on Sunday afternoon due to snow and rain over the weekend. But it was an extra-innings stunner for the Panthers as catcher Emmy Wells hit the only home run to walk it off in the bottom of the eighth. Wells is now tied with Missouri State catcher Alex Boze for most home runs in the Valley with eight apiece.

It was a pitcher's duel for most of Sunday afternoon as UNI registered just two hits while the Bears had five hits. Starting pitchers Kailyn Packard and Steffany Dickerson went toe to toe through eight innings with Packard coming out on top. Through eight innings of work, Packard tied her career-high in strikeouts with 12, allowed five hits, and had no runs for her fourth shutout of the season.

The Panthers picked up their two hits towards the end of the game in the bottom of the seventh and the bottom of the eighth. Designated player Mya Dodge broke up Dickerson's no-no bid with a single to right field with the count loaded. Dodge would be caught stealing just two pitches later for the first out of the inning. But the one hit UNI needed game in the eighth as Emmy Wells stepped up to bat facing two outs.

After hitting a couple of balls foul and letting one pass, Wells hit a straight shot to left field to get the walkoff win for the Panthers. UNI now moves to 14-11 on the season while being 6-1 in conference action.

UP NEXT: The Panthers head across the state to Ames for their second matchup with Iowa State on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. from Cyclone Sports Complex, weather depending.
