My GALvanize "Who not Do" Interview and Experience!

I'm so excited I can finally share this video with you! Back in early July, I saw an opportunity posted on Twitter by GALvanize, Laura Okmin's organization for women who have ambitions to be in sports broadcasting, that was to interview someone in the sports world to get interviewing reps during the COVID-19 sports pause. I had just gone back to work after being furloughed at the time and knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity to be able to have a long-form interview, something I rarely get to do at work.

And signing up to be a part of this series is one of the best decisions I've ever made. I had attended a virtual GALvanize Bootcamp in the spring and had really enjoyed the experience. But that was nothing compared to the support and friendships I made through the "Who not Do" series. A group of about 50 of us all attended a Zoom call in mid-July where we learned who our interview partners for the series would be and some tips about how to prepare for the interview. From there we had a GroupMe chat to ask questions about our interviews and to support each other through the process.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to virtually meet and become friends with the amazing women that are apart of this series. They have truly changed my life, especially when it comes to figuring out what I want/need to do with my career. I now get to see so many wonderful examples of succeeding as a woman in sports and I couldn't be more grateful for the experience.

I also had a wonderful time working on my interview with PWHPA member Alyssa Gagliardi.

I was a big fan of researching Alyssa and her history in hockey especially as someone who has had such an amazing journey in the sport. And chatting with her for about 20 minutes one evening was such a good time. I loved learning about how to push through the fears and doubts of being in a space where no one else seems to look like you and how to make that space even more inclusive. Also got to talk about the Black Girl Hockey Club which is one of my favorite organizations to talk about ever.

I'm really proud of the work I did for this series and I can't wait to be able to do something like this again. I love long-form interviews and working on the research to ask those questions. So there may be a podcast in my future or a fun Youtube series, we'll see. I'll just have to actually have the guts to ask people to be on it, which will absolutely be the hardest part haha

After all that, here's the edited "Who not Do" interview with Alyssa Gagliardi. I hope you enjoy it!
