LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A UNI softball freshman has been recognized for the outstanding start to their collegiate career.

Freshman designated player and outfielder Mya Dodge has been named to the 2022 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award initial Top 25 list. Dodge along with 24 other NCAA Division I softball freshmen have been recognized for their play in their first season of collegiate softball.

This is the first time a UNI player has made the National Freshman of the Year Top 25 list since its inception in 2014. Dodge along with 11 other freshmen are the first student-athletes nominated for the award in their program's history.

Dodge, a Hiawatha, Iowa native, has had an outstanding start to her first season with the Panthers. As of Monday, April 25 Dodge is batting .379 over 37 games with 47 hits, 36 runs, six doubles, two triples, and 12 home runs. Dodge has brought in 28 runs with a .750 slugging percentage and a .448 on-base percentage. Dodge is also nationally ranked in home runs, home runs per game, runs per game, sacrifice flys, slugging percentage, stolen bases, stolen bases per game, and total bases.

With the Top 25 announcement from the NFCA, on May 12 the list will be trimmed down to the top 10 and the three finalists will be released on May 26. The 2022 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year will be announced on June 1 before the start of the 2022 NCAA Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
